Garth Ruffner Landscape Architect
Garth Ruffner was raised in Red Bluff, California. As a junior in High School, he chose to pursue a career in landscape architecture.
He attended the University of Oregon in Eugene and graduated with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Degree in 1981.
Garth Ruffner Landscape Architect was launched as a company in late 1993. The Firm quickly gained a reputation for producing unusually clear drawings and reliably meeting deadlines.
The Landscape Architect focuses on the design of effective planting and irrigation systems for commercial, industrial and institutional projects.

Garth personally designs and documents all irrigation and planting work, often concurrently. This approach results in tightly coordinated drawing sets.
All drawings are produced using standard AutoCAD software, which has been heavily customized for graphic clarity and efficiency. The text based planting symbols at right were developed by this office in 2006 and have greatly improved the planting layout accuracy of landscape contractors.
This web site was created in the Summer of 2009, and most of the photographs were taken at that time. The central focus of the site is to serve as a resource for the people who regularly work with Garth.
The site was produced using WebPlus X2 software by Serif. All photographs were taken using a Canon SD 700 IS camera.
The photos are depictions of the original design intent, not typical views of each project. In many cases, particularly with older installations, plants have been severely damaged by over-pruning (as shown at right) and under-fertilization.
Garth accepted a job in Sacramento in 1984, at Earth Art Landscape Architecture, where he worked as a project manager for the next 9 years.
